Steve DeMasco’s life story is not a collection of trophies, but a chronicle of obstacles overcome and lessons shared. It began in Spanish Harlem, where he was raised by a single mother whose iron will and unwavering integrity taught him that your circumstances are merely a starting point—they do not dictate your destination.
When Steve DeMasco moved to Brockton, Massachusetts, he was thrust into an environment where he was the outsider. Faced with bullying and isolation, He had to learn the most important lesson of his life: how to build a bridge when everyone else is building a wall. He realized that his survival depended on his ability to understand others and find common ground. This was the beginning of his commitment to bridge-building.
Steve DeMasco’s search for clarity eventually led him to the Shaolin Temple in China. As a direct disciple of the Shaolin lineage, I immersed myself in a culture of radical discipline and selflessness. However, the most profound insight he gained in the temple wasn’t a physical technique; it was the realization that my struggle was a gift meant to be shared.
Steve DeMasco returned to the United States to found Steve DeMasco’s Shaolin Studios (SDSS), not as a place for combat, but as a center for character development. He realized early on that to reach people—especially those who felt uninspired or neglected—He needed a specific approach. This led to the development of my Motivate-Inspire-Teach (MIT) framework. he has spent the last several decades translating these lessons into actionable strategies for leaders, educators, and communities. From the inner city to the highest levels of government, my work is to help others find the strength to rise and the heart to reach back and lift someone else up with them.
In Harlem, community was a survival mechanism. You learned early on that looking out for your neighbor was the only way to ensure the safety of the whole.
