In Harlem, community was a survival mechanism. You learned early on that looking out for your neighbor was the only way to ensure the safety of the whole.
Because most conflict arises from a lack of understanding. If you can build a bridge between two seemingly opposite perspectives, you don't just solve a problem—you create a new opportunity.
The need for authentic, service-based leadership has never been greater. Seeing a student shift their perspective from self-interest to community impact is the most rewarding part of my work.
